Nathaniel Wood, a UFC fighter, shared his experiences with none other than Dana White, the President of the UFC. In a podcast appearance with Steven Sully, Wood shed light on the side of White that doesn’t always make the headlines.

In his podcast, Wood narrated an exchange between him and White during one of UFC’s events. According to the UFC fighter, he was scheduled to fight in an event, but his opponent opted out on the last day. With only a few hours left for the event, the UFC could not give Wood a replacement to fight against.

When the UFC fighter came across the UFC President, he hesitantly asked him about a portion of compensation. “I saw Dana and I said, ‘You know my position, I was gutted I could not fight on the card’. I sort of hinted, ‘Is there a bit of compensation to cover some expenses”. To Wood’s surprise, Dana White demonstrated an unexpected level of compassion and fairness.

According to the 30-year-old, White decided to pay him his full purse along with the win bonus. Wood recounted, “He just said to me, ‘What you on buddy? What is your fight purse?’ And I think it was 29 (thousand) and 29 (thousand – win bonus). He just tapped me on the shoulder and said, ‘Mate, I’ll pay you everything and the win bonus”. Wood’s revelation presents a side of Dana White that is often overshadowed by controversies and accusations.

In sharing his story, Wood acknowledged that while he may not know Dana White on a deeply personal level. However, his interaction with the UFC President was overwhelmingly positive. Moreover, he also highlighted the endorsement of Brad Pickett, his trusted coach, who spoke highly of White.
“I know a lot of people give him stick and I don’t know him well enough to say who he is as a person,” he said. “But all I can say is that my experience with him… and Brad Pickett, my coach, who I trust very much. If Brad says good things about someone, for me, that’s also a positive,” he added.
