UFC Fight Night 226 was a huge success with a number of electrifying bouts. The bout that captured most of the attention of the French audience was undoubtedly the main event between Ciryl Gane and Sergey Spivak. It was the UFC’s second event in France, and it was way too special for the organization.
UFC president, Dana White, and the company struggled a lot to legalize MMA in France. After White battling years, Roxana Maracineanu, the then-French Sports Minister, announced on X in 2019 that MMA would be recognized as a sport in France at the professional and amateur levels from January 1, 2020. Later, the UFC hosted its first-ever event in France on September 3, 2022, where Ciryl Gane and Tai Tuivasa locked horns. After UFC Fight Night 209, the UFC revisited France with UFC Fight Night 226 on Saturday. UFC Paris, headlined by Ciryl Gane and Sergey Spivak, is a huge success
The fight card for UFC Fight Night 226 had a whopping nine fighters from France. Out of the nine fighters, seven of them won their bouts. Talking about the success of the event in France, the UFC vice president said, “I mean, on the decibel level, I think was something we hadn’t heard in a long time. I mean, we talk about this a lot. You get to these home shows arenas with fervent fans. Whether it’s, you know, Jose in Rio or Georges in Montreal or Alex in Stockholm and the list goes on and on. And you never think that you can get, like, that fever pitch even higher than it is before. That felt louder than the last year.“
Talking further on the topic, he appreciated the French fighters who were part of the event and achieved glorious victories. He added, “Exciting fights for the fans, it was. Great, I mean we’re walking away thinking you know like last year our feeling was ‘Okay first time in Market.’ We’d worked so hard to get legalization in France.” He also reinforced that the event was a huge success and that the efforts put into the event by the promotion were worth it.
