One major talk of the MMA town right now is the split of UFC light heavyweight, Alex Pereira and his ex-girlfriend, Merle. What surprised fans, was seeing the UFC middleweight title contender follow Pereira’s ex-girlfriend and like her pictures. Here’s why he did it.
The reason why Dricus Du Plessis followed Merle (Pereira’s ex-girlfriend)
Alex Pereira and Merle seem to have broken up quite recently, as though the two didn’t make the announcement publicly. They removed pictures of each other from their social media.
Merle has since decided to put her foot into MMA journalism and asked her followers who they’d like to see her interview. A fan suggested that she should interview Dricus Du Plessis. She tagged ‘Stillknocks’ in her Instagram story with the caption,“@dricusduplessis what about an interview for the German fans?”
Dricus Du Plessis took the opportunity to follow Merle on Instagram and even liked her pictures. A Twitter user called ‘THE MMA GURU’ caught a whiff of this and posted it on his X (formerly known as Twitter) account.

Given Dricus Du Plessis’ eagerness to move up in weight and aim to be a two-divisional champion in the UFC, this really blew the whole situation out of proportion. The fans certainly had a lot to say about the post.
