Jorge Masvidal became a top PPV draw in the UFC after beginning as a competitor for Kimbo Slice’s backyard fights. Masvidal couldn’t get immediate success in his MMA career. But now that he has achieved fame, he is giving the opportunity for young MMA aspirants to shine in his own bare-knuckle MMA promotion.

In a conversation with MMA Journalist Ariel Helwani, Masvidal talked about his vision for the promotion.

When Helwani asked if he was content with being a ‘feeder’ to UFC, Masvidal said, “Yeah. I mean, it’s different. You know, we are never gonna try to compete with the UFC or nothing like that.”

Gamebred‘ added, “So, I don’t mind putting on the best regional fights. And this has a big market as MMA is growing. You know you want to see those guys through the ranks with more and more people.”

Masvidal suggested that his promotion is going strong with every event. Thus, they would continue to put on shows. Besides, he pointed out, “I love to be a promoter, just give these fighters a chance… Let them go do their thing and get their 15 seconds of fame and feed their families and live out their dreams. You know, I love it that, you know in a small way, shape, or form, I could be a part of that.”

Even Masvidal’s potential opponent Conor McGregor‘s bitter rival Khabib Nurmagomedov is running his Eagle FC promotion and is content to offer the up-and-coming fighters to the UFC.

Why are both Jorge Masvidal and Khabib Nurmagomedov not challenging the UFC?

Dana White has invested decades to build the UFC into what it is today. The UFC President improved the fighters’ pay structure and bought out his rival promotion to establish the UFC as the premier MMA organization.

Both Masvidal and Nurmagomedov, are very competitive, but even they realize that becoming a promoter and going against Dana White’s UFC is not something they could do in a year or two.

In an interview with a Russian outlet, RT, ‘The Eagle‘ had suggested they perhaps need a decade to overtake the UFC. Thus, he had no plans to compete against Dana White. Likewise, Masvidal also admitted he had no plans to challenge UFC.
