After the disappointing numbers of the UFC 289, UFC 290 was a saving grace for UFC President Dana White and the entire company, for that matter. Amazing fight cards ensured that the main event, which was held on 9 July, was one of the biggest UFC main events of all time. According to reports, 800K PPV buys were recorded on the day of the fight itself.

Now that UFC 290 has set the bar so high, it is to be seen if UFC President Dana White can make the magic happen once again – for UFC 300. A wizard with matchmaking, White has helped the UFC reach levels of success that were initially deemed unimaginable. Now, he has a roster of 578 fighters, with UFC legends also returning. But what of the UFC Welterweight champion Leon Edwards? When is he fighting next?

Big match for the big man – Dana White breaks silence on UFC Welterweight champ’s next match

UFC Welterweight champion Leon Edwards snatched the Welterweight championship from The Nigerian nightmare, Kamaru Usman, back in 2022. Edwards has ruled as the division supremo ever since. The two faced off again this year, but Edwards thwarted all efforts from Usman and retained the championship after a successful title defense.

However, now that UFC 290 is done with, people are asking when they can see their favorite Welterweight fighter back in action. In a recent interview with TNT Sports, Dana White divulged future plans for the UFC, plans for UFC 300, and even spoke about Edwards’ fight and its tentative timeline.

The interviewer brought up Leon Edwards and asked White when he is expected to return to the Octagon and defend his title.

Before the end of the year. Yeah, we’ll see him before the end of the year. Um, he could play out to possibly fight at MSG, so…“, replied White, hinting at a possible main event that takes place at the esteemed Madison Square Garden (MSG).

Talking bout the future plans for the promotion, White said, “Again, stuff we’re still working on. I mean… we’re up to like… yeah like up to October figured out right now.“, before the interview was concluded. However, the road leading up to the fight in October has not always been smooth.

The UFC President didn’t take this well. There was an undercurrent between the two that stemmed from this. But White always said that according to him, it was a good matchup and that it would happen for sure.
