Anderson Silva Announces Sad News for UFC Fans

Anderson Silva is one of the best fighters to have ever graced the octagon. He has been a pioneer in the sport and has inspired and paved the way for many fighters not only from Brazil but also the rest of the world. ‘The Spider’ as is he affectionately known will take on Uriah Hall on the 31st of this month at the UFC Apex. 

Ever since his debut, Silva has shown continued brilliance inside the octagon with spectacular performances that have cemented his status as the best middleweight ever. He also makes a very strong case for being considered as the greatest in the sport. However, it appears as though MMA fans will not have the pleasure of watching Anderson Silva anymore.

Anderson Silva takes a tough decision regarding his future

In an interview, Anderson Silva shared disheartening news for MMA fans. He said, “This is the last fight. For sure, this is the last fight. Probably. I love the sport. I’ve prepared my mind for this. I’ve prepared for fight my entire life, but yes, this is my last fight in UFC.”

‘The Spider’ continued, “I think (I’ll miss) the training (the most). Preparing my mind, preparing my body. This I think is most important and I feel sad because I don’t have this anymore. This is the last one.”

Silva made his debut in the UFC all the way back in 2006 when he demolished Chris Leben in 49 seconds. He then went on one of the greatest unbeaten streaks in the UFC as he won his next 15 fights to set an unprecedented 16-fight win streak. In the process set multiple UFC records. The Brazilian fighter made a record 10 successive title defenses, which was later broken by flyweight fighter Demetrious Johnson.

The past few years have been extremely tough for Anderson Silva, with just one victory in his last eight fights, including one no contest. Nevertheless, Silva’s contribution to the sport will never be forgotten. If this is indeed his last fight, MMA and the UFC would lose out on one of the best in the business. MMA fans will hope that ‘The Spider’ can finish his career with a win against Hall.
