UFC CEO Dana White recently announced some blockbuster fights, including the headliners for UFC 317, involving Ilia Topuria and Charles Oliveira, and UFC 319, including Dricus du Plessis and Khamzat Chimaev. With both of these title fights in the books, fans wanted to know about the heavyweight title fight between Jon Jones and Tom Aspinall, to which the UFC CEO responded by asking the fans to have some patience.

“We’ll get Aspinall vs Jones done… the heavyweight fight will happen. Just relax,” said Dana White during his recent Instagram Live session. Given that the call for the heavyweight title unifying matchup has been coming in since the aftermath of UFC 295, fans still didn’t get a substantial reaction from the UFC CEO, but it seems like there’s a tactic in place from the 55-year-old.

The undisputed champion has already asked for six months to prepare for Tom Aspinall, if that’s what his next fight is supposed to be. But in the wake of Jon Jones‘s announcement his appearance on a Russian version of TUF, more doubts have taken shape about the heavyweight clash. But there are estimations made by an insider that the fight happens after the six-month period is over.

Dana White has already laid out the plans for UFC 316 all the way up to UFC 319, with massive fights like Max Holloway vs Dustin Poirier getting scheduled as well. Meanwhile, according to ESPN’s Aaron Bronsteter, he has insinuated that the 55-year-old could be waiting to surprise fans with the Jon Jones vs Tom Aspinall fight news in the final quarter of the year. “Following these announcements, seems the very earliest we will get Jones vs. Aspinall is October,” the famous MMA journalist wrote on X.

We now have the headliners for the upcoming events till UFC 319, so why can’t Jones and Aspinall fight at UFC 320 in September? That’s when Jones’s six month period end after all. Well, it seems like October could be a realistic date for the impending heavyweight clash because the UFC’s September PPV is set to go head-to-head against a mega-boxing event, headlining two of the biggest boxers in the sport today. Let’s take a look at that front.

The reason why Jon Jones vs Tom Aspinall may not happen at UFC 320

The UFC will be moving to Mexico once again to celebrate the nation’s Independence Day, and they will be bringing UFC 320 this time to Guadalajara on September 13. Just like we mentioned, the main event is yet to be finalized, but it is unlikely that fans will see Jon Jones and Tom Apinall because of two factors. Firstly, given that it’s a show dedicated to Mexico, we might see someone hailing from that country main event the fight.

Secondly, putting Tom Aspinall and Jon Jones in the main event of UFC 320 could prove detrimental to the fight because the boxing superfight between Canelo Alvarez and Terrence Crawford will take place on the same date. This could take away the interest from the Jon vs Aspinall fight, which, for Dana White, has the potential to be the biggest fight in UFC history.

Nevertheless, Dana White is still tight-lipped on the whole Jones vs Aspinall situation, but he has promised that the fight is going to happen. But is October going to be the date? That remains to be seen. In the meantime, let us know what you think in the comments down below.
