Another UFC Main Event in Jeopardy as Russia-Ukraine Conflict Affects European Lawmakers

Another UFC event could be a victim of the ongoing Russia-Ukraine conflict, as European lawmakers promise to ban athletes from Russia and its allied nations.
The UFC is in the business of scheduling super fights inside the octagon every week. Not only has this strategy worked well, but it has also catapulted the Las Vegas-based promotion to unforeseen status in the MMA business. Now, working on the same tradition, the premiere promotion announced their London event, where fans would get to see several local MMA sensations go up against UFC stars.

However, the UFC London main event that features Salford native Tom Aspinall and veteran Alexander Volkov is already in jeopardy as one member of parliament from the U.K. has promised to ban athletes from the aforementioned regions.
“the UK will not welcome the national sports teams of those countries who are complicit,” the lawmaker wrote in an official capacity.
MMA Fighting reported that Volkov’s visa is at risk at the moment and the Ultimate Fighting Championship is still pondering whether to move the heavyweight bout to a different event in the U.S.A. or replace the Russian with someone else at UFC London. Giving Aspinall a totally different opponent.
The heavyweight bout between Aspinall and Volkov is arguably the most anticipated fight of the London UFC event. However, there are other fights at UFC London that might also get affected by the ongoing dispute between Russia and Ukraine.
Which UFC London events are at risk of being canceled?
The UFC is returning to London after a wait of two years. However, it does not look good for the premier promotion as they have already faced two decisive events that have threatened their event. Recently, the O2 Arena, the venue for UFC London, was damaged by a storm that shredded the roof of the stadium.

And now, the major dispute between Ukraine and Russia has also put Russian MMA fighters in a tough spot, as they might not be able to fly to the United Kingdom for their fights. UFC London also features three other fighters from Russia apart from Volkov. Namely, Timur Valiev and heavyweights Sergei Pavlovich and Shamil Abdurakhimov.
