Valentina Shevchenko and her sister Antonina Shevchenko are two of the most outgoing athletes on the UFC roster. The Peruvian born sisters are not only professional fighters. They also enjoy the shooting range, and now fans have learned of another interest they have.
‘The Bullet’ is one of the most dominant fighters in the UFC. She is the current flyweight champion and recently defended her title against Jennifer Maia at UFC 255. Her sister, Antonina, is also a part of the UFC flyweight division. She recorded an impressive TKO win over Brazilian Ariane Lipski.
The duo were the first sisters to fight at the same UFC event.
They had a strong Muay Thai background and transitioned into MMA. Despite honing their martial arts skills, they make time to be proficient in other fields as well.
Sitting down with UFC Unfiltered, the Shevchenko sisters talked about their favorite activities outside of fighting. Antonina would go on to describe her passion to take to the skies as a professional pilot. She revealed that she has hopes to receive a commercial pilot license.
‘La Pantera’ has often shared her flight experience on her social media. She is currently a licensed private pilot while she is also studying to get her commercial license as well.
Antonina said, “Yes exactly, I’m a private pilot. I really love flying, I just started to fly here in the States and got my license and am really in love with this… I’m a private pilot license, I got my private rating and hope to receive my commercial rating.”
Having a world champion as a sister has its perks. The women’s UFC flyweight champion Valentina Shevchenko had a fascinating idea for the promotion and her sister. ‘The Bullet’ said, “Who knows, maybe in the future, Dana White can hire her to be an official UFC pilot.”
Antonina touched upon some pointers of her license and pilot training. She said, “I’m capable as a pilot to fly with no or restricted visibility… The instrument reading teaches you how to fly…land under no visibility… It’s a long, difficult way and long way of studying, but it just very interesting.”
Both the Shevchenko sisters recorded wins on the UFC 255 card. Now they will look to take some well-earned time off doing the things they love outside the octagon. What do you make of Valentina’s suggestion?
