Alexander Volkanovski came out on top against Brian Ortega via a unanimous decision at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas last night. He bagged his 20th consecutive career win at UFC 266 and defended his title for the second time. However, Brian Ortega made him earn it.

‘T-City’ almost had fans convinced that he was going to win via submissions not once, but twice. However, Volkanovski surprisingly got himself out of both and proved himself as the featherweight champion.

After his big triumph, the Australian acknowledged his hard work and preparation for getting him to where he is today. He sent an uplifting message to the audience, saying, “I am a normal human being. I’ve said a time and time again, just hard work got me where I am. Anyone could do what I’ve done. Anyone. Sky is the limit for any of you. Everyone back home in Australia, I know you’re going for a rough time. I did this for you.

While ‘The Great’ may also want contenders to “bring it”, the fact remains that no one barring Holloway has made a case for a title shot. Also, Volkanovski is 2-0 over ‘Blessed‘.

What’s next for Alexander Volkanovski?

The obvious answer here would be Max Holloway. Despite the fact that he defeated Holloway twice, the second fight split fans all over the world. Considering that, fans still believe Volkanovski can never move on from Holloway till he faces him again. However, if Yair Rodriguez beats the Hawaiian in November, he could stake a claim for a shot.

Additionally, a fight against Henry Cejudo could be an option if the UFC decides to let ‘Triple C’ have a shot at a third belt. ‘The Messenger’ hinted at a return following the UFC 266 main event.
