In fact, while Usman Nurmagomedov is scheduled to defend his lightweight title against the undefeated Irish Paul Hughes at Bellator Road to Dubai on Jan. 25, he is more focused on his brother’s fight against ‘The Machine.’ On not being able to make it to UFC 311, Nurmagomedov told MMA Junkie, “Honestly, yes, for me it’s a little hard. I want to be there with Umar for his fight, first time for him fighting for a title. But any time it doesn’t matter. For me, it’s the most important that these guys will win. That’s what’s most important. Other things, this doesn’t matter.” This little statement truly shows the close bond that the two brothers share.

Such is the close-knit bond between the two brothers that the UFC bantamweight title challenger’s nickname, ‘Young Eagle,’ is a reference to his cousin’s moniker. Speaking on how Khabib Nurmagomedov is helping him find greatness in the sport, Umar Nurmagomedov told SHAK MMA, “We’re lucky because we have a coach like Khabib, and it’s really tough to train with him, but you know, iron sharpens iron—sharpening iron… We’re becoming strong, and I think it’s very good for us.”
