It appears Arman Tsarukyan was set to go all out at UFC 300, whether it be  inside the cage or outside! The number 4 ranked lightweight contender took on former lightweight champion Charles Oliveira at the landmark UFC event. While the build-up to this clash was largely respectful between the two men, it appears that wasn’t the case with the fans at the UFC arena!

While Tsarukyan appeared supremely confident in his skills at the pre-fight interviews, his coach, Marcos daMatta was cautious in their approach as he had stated in an interview with the Trocacao Franca podcast, “This guy is a finisher. He knocks people out, he submits people. He’s extremely dangerous.” But it seemed as if the fans almost fell victim to Tsarukyan’s preparation and intensity as during the walk-out, he almost got into a brawl with a section of the spectators!

During the walkout, Tsarukyan could be seen attempting to get to the fans alongside the walkout aisle and had to be held back by security. When he moved forward, he snapped at another group of fans before continuing his journey to the Octagon.

Another angle of the footage taken by what appears to be a fan in the crowd was also shared on X by Happy Punch which showed Tsarukyan even throwing a punch at the fans who seem to have said something during the walkout.

The incident has caused eyebrows to be raised as Tsarukyan is generally calm and isn’t known for his antics outside the cage. While it is still unclear what prompted the reaction from him, it underscores the fact that the sheer significance of the event may have gotten to him.

However, he shut down all talks of distractions at the fight as he managed to secure a win over ‘Do Bronx’ at the end of three rounds. While Oliveira did have his moments in the bout, Tsarukyan displayed his impressive wrestling and top-control skills over the 3 rounds. And he even pulled out a rarely seen move in modern MMA, the ‘axe kick’ in the second round of the bout, although it didn’t have a lot of impact on Oliveira.

The fight ended with two of the three judges scoring the fight for Arman Tsarukyan as he secured a split decision and a shot at the lightweight title currently held by Islam Makhachev. And during his post-fight speech, he made sure to let the champion know what awaits him next!

With a win over Charles Oliveira at UFC 300, Arman Tsarukyan is now in the number one spot in the division previously held by the Brazilian. And during the in-cage interview after his monumental win, he took the time to put Islam Makhachev on notice!

He stated, “It was five years ago, my short notice fight with Islam Makhachev, I gave him the toughest fight. I believe myself next fight, I’m going to [beat] him. Just give me the opportunity.”

The two had fought at 2019’s UFC Fight Night: Overeem vs Oleinik event. While Tsarukyan was making his debut in the promotion in the bout, he impressed the MMA world with his high-level grappling and scrambles against the Dagestani in their bout.

Even though he did lose the bout eventually via a unanimous decision, it does pose an interesting question for their rematch as since then, both fighters have seemingly improved by leaps and bounds.  Do you think Arman Tsarukyan has what it takes to end Islam Makhachev’s reign atop the 155 lbs division?
