Michael Bisping believes Leon Edwards is a good fighter. However, Bisping criticized ‘Rocky’ for canceling a possible fight against fellow welterweight fighter Jorge Masvidal.
Leon Edwards and Jorge Masvidal have a wild history, beginning with a backstage brawl at a UFC event. Since then, the Brit has been asking for a fight with Masvidal. However, ‘Rocky’ backed off from the idea when the promotion was about to set up the fight.
This decision triggered the 42-year-old Bisping. In a recent episode of his podcast, Bisping said, “Leon Edwards great fighter tremendous win streak doing great stuff wants to fight for the belt and he’s been offered, not offered, but he came out publicly and said he doesn’t want to fight Jorge Masvidal. He says that he’s got no interest in fighting him because he is on a two-fight skid. Why would I wanna fight him and it just frustrates me a little bit?”

He added, “That’s the fight you should definitely go after. Burns just come out and talking s**t about him. Let’s remember Masvidal assaulted him and punched him backstage. So number one as a man, you should fight him. And secondly, I mean, I get what Leon is saying. Masvidal has lost his last two fights to Kamaru Usman. But he is a big star. You go out there beat Masvidal, you continue that win streak, then you’re gonna get that title fight. Come on.”
According to Bisping, ‘Rocky’ won’t be getting a title shot any time soon and he should have fought Masvidal to settle their old beef inside the octagon. However, the Brit is aiming for the UFC welterweight gold for his next fight in the promotion.

Will Leon Edwards get a title fight next?
The 19-3 record holder Leon Edwards has kept his column green since his last defeat against Kamaru Usman in 2015. ‘Rocky’ is on an impressive nine-fight win streak and is currently #3 in the welterweight division. He aims for the title shot next.

However, the promotion has set up a rematch between ‘The Nigerian Nightmare’ and Colby Covington for the welterweight gold at UFC 268. Hence, ‘Rocky’ is out of the scenario. He might face the winner of the title fight next year.

Meanwhile, the promotion might want him to fight one more bout before his title shot. A win in his next fight will surely land him a welterweight gold opportunity. However, the decision is still in the hands of the promotion.
