

UFC saw a historic weigh-in blunder yesterday as light heavyweight William Knight missed weighed in at 218-pounds, 12 pounds over the limit (205 at light heavyweight and 1 pound allowance).
Although his opponent accepted the fight, which has now been changed to a heavyweight bout, fans had their own take on the complete fiasco.

Although ‘Knightmare’ missed weight by a huge margin, he took full responsibility for his actions and revealed the real reason he couldn’t make weight for the bout.
William Knight issues apology for UFC 271 blunder
After missing weight, the bout that was originally scheduled as a light heavyweight fight will now be fought at heavyweight. Knight’s opponent Maxim Grishin, who weighed 206 pounds, accepted the fight at the higher weight class as Knight was ordered to give up 40% of his purse as a penalty.

This weight miss created a record as it exceeded Rafael Alves’s 11.5-pound weight miss at UFC Vegas in February of last year.

Meanwhile, Knight issued a sincere apology on Instagram after the weigh-in ceremony. Knight cited the two-week short notice fight acceptance as the sole reason for his weight miss and promised to do better in the future.
