Tracy Cortez has received a unique piece of advice from a fan ahead of her matchup against Rose Namajunas at UFC Denver on July 13! The fight was originally set to be a clash against Maycee Barber and ‘Thug Rose’, however, due to severe health complications, Barber had to withdraw from the bout just weeks out from the event. In a statement made on social media, ‘The Future’ stated, “We made the decision with my team of coaches, Drs and the UFC that my physical health must be attended to now so that I can make a run in the future”

This led to Cortez getting a chance to take on possibly the biggest challenge in her UFC run so far in the former strawweight champion, Namajunas. The fight will also be the first time Cortez will headline a UFC main event, and in a unique exchange on social media, she had an interesting response to a fan bringing up her past relationship with fellow UFC star, Brian Ortega!

Tracy Cortez is currently undefeated in the UFC with a 5-fight win streak under her belt as she prepares for the massive task of facing a former two-time strawweight champion in Rose Namajunas. In a recent post on social media, Cortez shared a few pictures of herself preparing for her media obligations for the main event at UFC Denver.

In the replies to the post, a fan stated, “Rose looks like Brian Ortega. Keep that in mind while fighting”, which prompted a hilarious reaction from Ortez as she responded by stating, “😂😂😂 y’all wild Lmfaoo!”

Brian Ortega and Tracy Cortez’s relationship had drawn a lot of attention from the MMA sphere in the past as the two fighters were engaged at one point and ‘T-City’ had also gotten Cortez’s first name tattooed on the inside of his lip on Valentine’s Day in 2022. Cortez was also present in Ortega’s corner during his clash against Alexander Volkanovski at UFC 266.

However, once their break-up was reported in 2023, things took a bad turn as verbal jabs began to fly on social media. Ortega had posted on X, “Everyone out here talking bout I fumbled. Y’all must not know the rules of the game. When you drop the ball on accident that’s a fumble , but when you throw it away on purpose. That’s called a complete pass . Top G sh*t!”

This drew a response from Cortez who stated, “Let me just say that to this day, I’ve yet to say anything negative about you or bash your name! Don’t start throwing shade now”. Since then, things appear to have settled with both of them moving on with their lives. As Cortez focuses on the upcoming test against Rose Namajunas, she recently revealed that she has a wish to make history with a win at UFC Denver!

Cortez believes performance against ‘Thug Rose’ key to her championship aspirations  

Currently ranked no.11 in the UFC women’s flyweight division, Tracy Cortez is looking at her fight against the no. 6 ranked Namajunas as a stepping stone towards title contention. Despite Namajunas’ limited resume in this weight class and a record of 1-1 as a flyweight, a victory against her would still be a significant achievement for Cortez.

In an interview with MMA Junkie, Cortez stated, “I really want to fight for the belt. I know there’s a lot of people ahead of me still. I know winning this fight, where it could move me to” and emphasized the importance of her performance on July 13 and the potential opportunities it could unlock.

Cortez also shared her vision of taking part in the upcoming UFC 306: ‘Riyadh Season Noche UFC’ event in September as she stated, “If I get the opportunity and they grant me the opportunity to fight at the Sphere, I think it would be incredible history.”  As Tracy Cortez gets ready for this crucial test in the women’s flyweight division against Rose Namajunas, the fight not only represents a personal milestone but also a potential leap toward her ultimate goal of becoming a champion!
