As Khabib Nurmagomedov Teases July Return, Georges St-Pierre Gives Green Light to Anticipated Match: “I Never Say Never”

Khabib Nurmagomedov shook the UFC world by announcing his retirement in 2021. Many found the news difficult to process as he retired at the peak of his career with a record of 29-0. Furthermore, Nurmagomedov was the longest-reigning lightweight champion. The Eagle is undoubtedly one of the greatest fighters in the history of MMA. However, many consider Georges St-Pierre to be the greatest MMA fighter in the history of the sport. St-Pierre, with a record of 26-2, was also a two-division champion who has won titles in the welterweight and middleweight divisions.

GSP retired from the UFC in 2013 while he was reigning as the welterweight champion. However, he came back to lock horns with Michael Bisping in the middleweight division in 2017; he won the bout but later declared that he was retiring from the sport due to health concerns. Now, rumors are spreading that the two retired legends would come back to combat sports to fight against each other. ‘The Eagle’ already gave a hint to the fans that something would be coming up in July. Moreover, in the UFC 287 Legends Q&A, ‘Rush’ gave a green signal regarding his comeback.

St-Pierre was talking in the UFC 287 Legends Q&A. One of the fans was curious to know about a possible bout between St-Pierre and Nurmagomedov. As an answer to the question, GSP replied, Well, there is always a rumor. You know when it’s well done, maybe for a good cause, money goes to charity.” He added, “Maybe I would compete again but not to prove that, not to trying to be the strongest man on earth. That I have no interest in doing anymore. But for a grappling event, maybe something like this. I never say never, you know.

Three days ago, ‘The Eagle’ took to his Instagram handle to post a video of him working out. Along with the video, he wrote,July, I have to be ready (Not MMA).” Both the hints from the UFC legends made fans feel that the two were going to face each other in a grappling match.

 The UFC community has always wanted to see GSP and Nurmagomedov face off against each other inside the cage. Rumors that the two are going to fight each other have also been spread in the past as a result of the same.

Dana White offered St-Pierre to Khabib Nurmagomedov

 ‘The Eagle’ retiring disappointed the UFC President, Dana WhiteHe tried hard to persuade the former lightweight champion to come back to the UFC. To make that possible, White offered Nurmagomedov a fight against St-Pierre. Nurmagomedov’s manager, Ali Abdelaziz, confirmed the offer. Nonetheless, The Eagle turned down the offer. At the moment, the UFC world needs to wait to find out if the two would actually come face-to-face in a grappling match.
