The main reason behind the wildfire’s ferocity became clear as the National Weather Service revealed the role of Hurricane Dora. Dora is a Category 4 storm hundreds of miles south of the Hawaiian islands. Hurricane-generated winds, exceeding 60 miles per hour, swept through Maui, toppling power lines and damaging homes.
