However, Chandler‘s rise to fame hasn’t been without controversy. Many have accused him of getting “Dana White Privilege.” The term “Dana White Privilege” was first coined by UFC fighter Tony Ferguson. Ferguson claimed that Chandler got preferential treatment because of his close relationship with UFC President Dana White.

In a recent podcast, Chandler explained that his success in MMA has been the result of his strong work ethic. He acknowledged that being a good employee had worked out well for him. It had led to promotions and higher pay. Chandler also emphasized that being an indispensable asset to his organization had helped him to stand out and receive more opportunities.

“It was kind of funny but it was also kind of true (referring to the Dana White privilege comment). If you’re in an organization, it is the heads of the organization’s prerogative and job… to find the best talent, and the best people in the organization and promote them.”

Chandler also talked about how he has been valuable since his Bellator days. Because of his hard work, Chandler believes that he is a bigger star than he could ever think of becoming. “I am where I’m at today because I was an indispensable asset to the organization of Bellator. They wanted to keep me, they promoted me, they paid me well. Then, I came over to the UFC and now I’ve become one of those guys in the UFC”, Chandler said.

Michael Chandler’s Bellator days

Before joining the UFC, Chandler had a long and successful career in Bellator MMA. He won the lightweight championship three times and established himself as one of the best fighters in the promotion’s history. He eventually made the jump to the UFC and has since become a fan favorite, winning his first UFC fight in spectacular fashion.
