In the ever-unpredictable world of mixed martial arts (MMA), where every move within and beyond the Octagon is scrutinized, an intense online feud has erupted. This back-and-forth is between two prominent fighters, Julianna Peña, and Mayra Bueno Silva. The battleground for this verbal exchange? Social media platforms, where fighters often wield their words as they do with their fists. The feud which was initiated a while back seems to have taken a new direction with a new revelation regarding Silva.

The origin of this clash lies in Mayra Bueno Silva’s recent admission of failing a drug test. The failure occurred during the build-up to her highly publicized triumph over Holly Holm at a UFC Fight Night back in July. Her revelation sent shockwaves through the MMA community. Doping-related conversations have always marred athletes’ careers. These conversations also bring to light regulations and other tricky debates about fairness, ethics, and their impact. However, the controversy didn’t stop at her admission; it escalated into a heated exchange when Julianna Peña, took to Twitter to voice her stance.

In the arena of social media, Peña’s response came swift and scathing. Twisting Bueno Silva’s nickname ‘Sheetara’,” ‘The Venezuelan Vixen’ coined the hashtag #CHEATara. In a tweet, Peña wrote, “#CHEATara, living up to your nickname. Back to being a curtain jer**r of an Apex card you go. You fought two 41yr olds this year and you had to cheat in order to get it done. Can’t pass a #drugtest? Keep my name out of your mouth ya dumb broad!

‘Sheetara’ found herself defending her actions earlier. In a statement aimed at clarifying her position, she attributed the failed drug test to her prescribed medication for Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD). She underscored that she had discontinued the medication at the outset of fight week. She claimed she followed this practice for all her previous fights as well. Bueno Silva went on to emphasize that the detected substance was present in only trace amounts. According to her, this tiny amount held no potential, especially for in-competition advantage at the elite level of the sport. When the American Gymnast Simone Biles famously came under fire regarding doping allegations, it was revealed that athletes in her field were allowed to use drugs that applied for TUE (Therapeutic Use Exemption).

Aftermath of the failure: Moving forward

‘The Venezuelan Vixen’s outrage also finds its roots in a post made by ‘Sheetara’ a while back. The post graphically signified that Silva wanted to beat ‘The Vixen’. The sharp comments in Peña’s response make a reference to this. Silva’s explanation has yet to quell the storm that continues to brew. Within the MMA community, opinions remain deeply divided. Some argue that even minuscule traces of banned substances undermine the idea of a level playing field. Others view this verbal jousting as an integral aspect of the sport.
