Sergei Pavlovich did not have a great debut in the UFC. He lost to Alistair Overeem in the first round via knockout. However, Sergei Pavolovich bounced back strong and amassed a 6-fight winning streak with all of his wins coming via first-round finishes. This led Joe Rogan to compare him to yet another heavyweight fighter.

The 31-year-old Russian fighter has proved himself to be a dominant force in the UFC’s heavyweight division. He’s amassed an impressive record and has always overwhelmed his opponent with his powerful strikes. As such, Joe Rogan once compared the Russian ace to Francis Ngannou for their apparent similar characteristics. Let’s see what he had to say.

Joe Rogan had Belal Muhammad as his guest on the #134 episode of the ‘JRE MMA Show’ when they started talking about Sergei Pavlovich. The 56-year-old started to compare the Russian fighter to Francis Ngannou due to his powerful knockout finishes. Rogan said, “Pavlovich. That’s the boy. Sergei Pavlovich. That motherf***er, that’s the Russian Fedor [Emelianenko]. I mean, the Russian Francis [Ngannou], rather.”

Furthermore, Joe Rogan mentioned how Sergei Pavlovich starts to come at his opponent with all his might from the get-go. This is a trait similar to how Francis Ngannou approached his fights, but the 31-year-old possesses more speed. “He, like, comes out, guns blazing on people. Just like like Francis used to. That motherf***er can bomb. He’s so fast, too. Very good, very good,” Rogan added. Moreover, he also shed light on one of the fights that Pavlovich had in the UFC, which impressed him the most.

The JRE host assessed Pavlovich’s fight against Tai Tuivasa

Sergei Pavlovich fought Australian heavyweight Tai Tuivasa at UFC on ESPN 42. The fight ended in 54 seconds of the first round and that earned the Russian his fifth win in a row. As such, Joe Rogan was impressed with that performance because Tuivasa put up a great fight against another heavyweight star, Ciryl Gane. So, he did not think that the fight would end so quickly. Rogan said, “The Tai Tuivasa fight was incredible. I mean, you think about Ciryl Gane going through that war with him, and Sergei just put it on him.”

Furthermore, Joe Rogan praised Sergei Pavlovich’s boxing skills. He claims that the 31-year-old has great technique and game-changing power in his punches which complements his size. “His boxing is f**ing tight, very tight, man. Real power punches, excellent technique [and a] big guy too. Big heavy f**,” said the JRE host.

Sergei Pavlovich’s record in the UFC certainly makes him a big threat to Tom Aspinall, as they’ll lock horns at UFC 295. However, the British fighter also has traits that helped him amass a similar record to the Russian fighter. Both fighters have earned their way to a title shot. Moreover, there are chances the interim title fight could end up being a number one contender’s fight for Jon Jones’s heavyweight title. We will have to wait and see how things unfold in the days and months to come.
