It seems like Belal Muhammad is finally getting his title shot. The #1 ranked welterweight’s nine-fight win streak, including his dominant unanimous decision victory over Gilbert Burns in a short-notice fight he took early last year has given the UFC no choice but to grant him a title shot.

Although the fight has not been confirmed yet, the Palestinian seems set to fight champion Leon Edwards at the upcoming UFC 300 century card in April this year. Ahead of their fight, Henry Cejudo made a very bold statement by comparing the Palestinian to none other that Khabib Nurmagomedov.

‘CCC’ draws a comparison between Belal Muhammad and Dagestani ‘Eagle’ Khabib Nurmagomedov

Cejudo, discussing the bout on his YouTube channel, felt the Edwards-Muhammad fight would be interesting and competitive. Muhammad’s UFC 288 bout against Gilbert Burns impressed the former two-division UFC champion and he felt that the Palestinian was better than when the two first fought to a no-contest in 2021.

“I think that Belal Muhammad- Leon Edwards fights is going to be a great competitive fight. I think if there’s any fights [that’s] going to be very competitive, it’s going to be them. Stylistically, what Belal Muhammad did to Gilbert Burns and how he did it to him, he’s only gotten better,” Cejudo said.

Cejudo also said that stylistically, Muhammad was the closest to the legendary Khabib Nurmagomedov he had ever seen. The Mexican-American saw many similarities in how both fighters, for example, shoot for takedowns and feints with their lead hands.

“And I will say this, man. The closest person to a guy like Khabib Nurmagomedov, his name is actually Belal Muhammad. They do the same kind of cross steps, that kind of run and shoot, they do the same with that lead hand to eventually level change for the takedown,” ‘Triple C’ added.

That is not all, as we have more updates on Muhammad, linking him straight to the Dagestani camp.

Muhammad heads to Dagestan for UFC 300 fight camp

Belal Muhammad’s manager, Ali Abdelaziz indicated in cryptic tweets recently that the #1 ranked welterweight is going to Dagestan to train for his upcoming UFC 300 title shot. This would be a good idea as Muhammad would get to train with ‘Khabib’ himself, with whom he shares stylistic similarities.

Muhammad is likely to stick to his strength and try to keep the fight on the ground as much as possible. Edwards is a far better striker than the Palestinian and trying to out-strike the Englishman would probably not end well for him. And training in Dagestan with its tough, brutal fight camps is the perfect way for Belal Muhammad to polish his skills.
