Khabib Nurmagomedov told Daniel Cormier back in 2021, “All the time my father watches his fights. I think he was my father’s favorite fighter. He all the time tell me, ‘Look at how he use his hips when he take down people. Look how he use his his elbows, how he use hips.” He was speaking about the legendary Georges St-Pierre. What made him so special to the Dagestani star? Khabib said, “I think he was first fighter who become a well-rounded fighter. He can strike, he can wrestle, he can take you down, he can hold you there, he can give crazy ground and pound. He can do a lot of submission. My opinion on that time, he was like first in UFC. You know he represents real mixed martial arts.” This respect is a two-way street, too.

When the pair met during UFC 209 fight week, Nurmagomedov revealed to the came after GSP exited the room, “My father [says] his dream fight is me vs. Georges St-Pierre.” If you look at their careers, that would have been a dream fight for any hardcore fan. And it’s been a topic of many debates, with the latest takeaways coming in from UFC 315 headliner Belal Muhammad.

‘Bully B’ sat down for a chat on Full Send MMA podcast and made some serious predictions about the hypothetical clash.  According to Muhammad, the 29-0 fighter would have won. Full Send Podcast shared a clip on their Instagram page where the 36-year-old said, “I don’t think anyone would beat Khabib.” The champion’s remarks even divided the fans in the comments section. A few of them didn’t quite agree with what ‘Bully B’ had to say. Listening to him, Kyle Forgeard just couldn’t hide his astonishment and said, “I think GSP would beat him.”

The 30-year-old even went on to say that ‘The Eagle’ won’t be able to take GSP down. However, Muhammad didn’t quite agree to it and said, “I think he would have taken him down. We have seen him taken down by Josh Koscheck, right? We have seen Hendricks take him down. But those guys were more college wrestlers. I think Khabib – his style of grappling and wrestling – like, you didn’t have to deal with it back then.”

This is not the first time that talks of a GSP and Khabib fight have floated around the fighting circuit. Georges St-Pierre sat down for an interview with Kamaru Usman and Henry Cejudo on the ‘Pound4Pound’ podcast in 2024 and shared his honest opinion on the whole. He said, “I think I would have beat him because if he would have come to put pressure on me, I would have put him down. I would have had the confidence to try to go for it. I think that I would have maybe been the first guy that he fought or one of the only guys that would have tried to put him down, and I’ve put down everybody that I’ve fought.”

As for Nurmagomedov, it’s too late in the day for either of them to get into the cage against each other. He said, “GSP really makes me excited and so on but it’s all over, brother. He’s 40 years old. Let’s just leave it. For sure we like him as a human being. He is the legend. He is the decent representation of mixed martial arts. Let it be like this, there’s GSP and Khabib.”

The long-anticipated clash between two of MMA’s most dominant forces never came to fruition, leaving fans without a definitive answer to who truly reigned supreme. Interestingly, Muhammad’s next opponent at UFC 315, Jack Della Maddalena, has also compared the 36-year-old with the legend ‘GSP’. However, his comparison might not impress the champion.

What’s your perspective on:

Could Khabib's grappling have truly overpowered GSP's legendary takedown defense in a dream fight?

Jack Della Maddalena labels Belal Muhammad and Georges St-Pierre’s fighting style ‘boring’

Jack Della Maddalena is on the brink of the biggest moment in his MMA career—his first shot at UFC gold at UFC 315. But the road to this title fight hasn’t been smooth. In a surprising twist, the rising Australian star had to launch a fundraiser just to cover the travel expenses for his team to join him in Canada. Thankfully, things took a positive turn when JDM shared on X that the UFC stepped in and agreed to cover the costs. But his opponent, Remember the Name,” didn’t miss the chance to mock JDM over the fundraiser in true trash-talk fashion. The 36-year-old took to his X account and tweeted, “Just when I was gonna donate to your fundraiser so your coaches can come …enjoy Spirit Airlines.”

Well, the UFC 7 fight winner didn’t let the comments pass lightly. Muhammad has long been a target of criticism from MMA fans who find his fighting style too “dull” or uninspiring. And it seems Jack Della Maddalena isn’t one to disagree. The Aussie contender didn’t hold back when given the opportunity to poke fun at Muhammad’s approach in the Octagon. He even went on to draw a comparison to the legendary Georges St-Pierre’s fighting style. While speaking to Niko Pajarillo, he said, “It’s no question he got a boring fight style. He’s good at holding people down and getting victories. GSP got flak back in the day for being a boring style. I think it’s a boring style, but winning is his number one goal, and fair play to him. But I feel like I can beat him.”

It will now be interesting to see whose fighting style comes out on top at UFC 315. Will ‘Bully B’ be able to defend his title against ‘JDM’? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below.
