The world just witnessed UFC 286, one of the biggest events the UFC fans were eagerly waiting for. Leon Edwards fought to retain his welterweight belt at any cost, and he indeed became successful in the battle against Kamaru Usman. His ferocious moves made him the strongest fighter at 170 pounds. After Leon Edwards emerged as the victor, the UFC president, Dana White, made an announcement that triggered one of the best welterweights, Belal Muhammad. White declared that Colby Covington will get to fight against “Rocky” for the title.

According to the UFC president, Covington has worked hard and taken all the necessary measures as a backup fighter for the UFC 286 main event. However, this felt more like a conspiracy for fighters like Muhammad. When Covington turned down the fight against Muhammad to be a backup, he called out his cowardice. At the moment, White has not fixed a date for the bout; however, he has assured that it’s going to be Covington against Edwards. Moreover, even after being at the peak of his career with a nine-fight winning streak, the promotion treats Muhammad quite unfairly. He has pointed this out in his recent tweets.

The news editor of MMA Fighting, Damom Martin, took to his Twitter handle to report the new statement of the 53-year-old. Damon wrote, “Dana White committed to Colby Covington getting the next title shot no matter what happens with Gilbert Burns vs. Jorge Masvidal (or I’m assuming Belal Muhammad apparently). ‘Colby gets the next shot no matter what happens.’” After coming across the tweet, Muhammad made a sarcastic tweet, he wrote, “‘I never make fights after a fight’ lol.”

When White was asked if his decision would change after the bout between Jorge Masvidal and Gilbert Burns, he said nothing could change his decision. A majority of welterweight fighters were not ready to accept the new announcement from the president, including the current WW champion Leon Edwards. Edwards claimed that other skilled fighters in the division deserved the title shot.

The UFC welterweight champion had his reasons to reject the idea as ‘Chaos’ hasn’t fought in the fighting promotion since his altercation with Masvidal both inside and outside the octagon.

The beef between Colby Covington and Jorge Masvidal

The beef between Jorge Masvidal and Colby Covington continues despite Masvidal earning another fight against Burns. “Chaos” has not fought a single bout since his victory against Jorge Masvidal at UFC 272 via unanimous decision. However, their battle didn’t come to an end after the octagon face-off. Gamebred attacked Chaos outside a restaurant in Miami Beach.
