Ben Askren will fight Jake Paul in a boxing match in April. The event will see ‘Funky’ make his debut inside the squared ring. The former multi-organization world champion will have an extra chip on his shoulder, as he will represent MMA in this cross-promotional bout. Many believe Paul will beat Askren as the latter is not renowned for his striking prowess.

Jake Paul is coming off a knockout win over former NBA player Nate Robinson and is the more experienced boxer. This intriguing clash has led to many personalities airing their views on the fight.

UFC color commentator Joe Rogan recently shared his take on the fight while talking to former UFC heavyweight Brendan Schaub.

Well, one thing that I don’t believe is that Ben Askren would knock out Nate Robinson… Ben is not an explosive guy at all. He’s very good at utilizing his superior wrestling knowledge, positions and technique,” said Rogan.

He knows how to grab a hold of guys and drag it to the ground and implement his style. He won’t be able to do that. So his main thing will be out, his main thing will be completely removed,” he added, pointing to the former Olympian’s superior wrestling abilities.

Both Askren and Paul are known for their trash-talking abilities and they are going all guns blazing at each other. The build-up to the bout has been entertaining already, and as the fight approaches, things will kick up several notches.

Ben Askren has been knocked out only once as a professional

The former Bellator and ONE Championship welterweight champion has fought some vicious strikers in his career including Robbie Lawler, Douglas Lima, Andrey Koreshkov, and more. Despite fighting a row of killers, he has only been knocked out once in his fighting career. BMF champion Jorge Masvidal knocked out ‘Funky‘ in 5 seconds to end his undefeated professional record.

So, it’s reasonable that Askren is confident in Paul not having the credentials to trouble him. However, anything can happen in combat sports and all it takes is one shot. Furthermore, Askren cannot turn to his trusty takedowns in a boxing match. Nevertheless, the bout will be entertaining for sure.

What did you make of Joe Rogan’s assessment? How will Askren fare in his boxing debut?
