Benoit Saint-Denis is one of the rising superstars in the lightweight division. His recent performances inside the Octagon have gathered a lot of attention from the fans. However, on Sunday he was up against 35-year-old Dustin Poirier, a veteran of the sport. Many believed that the Frenchmen would be too tough to handle for ‘The Diamond’ and may even retire him. And in the first round of the fight, those fears did seem to be coming true. However, Poirier not only matched the 28-year-old in grappling but also knocked him out in the second round. After his loss, Denis took to his Instagram account to reveal that he had not been doing well leading up to the fight.

The 28-year-old’s caption read, “Saturday, I had the honor of crossing iron with the legend @dustinpoirier. I fought completely dehydrated, frustration is huge, but it’s hard to judge when to cancel such an opportunity. I’m going to get back to work and fix some things that can’t be neglected and never give you a shadow of myself again. God tests us in so many ways. I’m blessed to be well surrounded and have tremendous support. It’s up to us to show you the BSD of the last fights when I return, and earn my revenge against the Louisiana guys.”

Dustin Poirier admits to taking extreme measures before UFC 299

35-year-old Dustin Poirier looked in sublime shape when he entered the Octagon at UFC 299. His decision to fight hard-hitting Benoit Saint-Denis was criticized by many, as they felt it was a wrong choice. However, Poirier stepped up his preparation and took extreme measures during his fight camp. Although his last fight against Justin Gaethje had ended in a brutal knockout, Poirier managed to move on from the loss and focused on his next opponent. During a recent episode of “The MMA Hour” he revealed how he cut off not only his friends but also his family members during his fight camp.

He further added, “I practiced a lot of mindfulness this camp I kind of blocked myself off from everybody I have so many people to catch up with because I didn’t respond to any texts. I didn’t answer any calls. Like I was just freaking… I took myself into another place this training camp.” Poirier is one of those elite fighters who is yet to become a champion in his division. However, his recent performance has gathered a lot of attention and fans want to see him go for the title next.
