“I came to be the champ; I’m going to be the champion,” declared Mauricio Ruffy, roaring with confidence ahead of his showdown against King Green on the UFC 313 main card. Stepping into the Octagon for the third time, Ruffy delivered a performance that left no doubt about his intentions. From the moment he made his walkout, the crowd could sense it—Ruffy had come with one goal in mind: to secure a dominant victory. And he did just that, sealing the deal in electrifying fashion with a jaw-dropping spinning wheel kick that sent Green crashing to the canvas and Joe Rogan was equally impressed to witness the kick.

In the Octagon Interview, Joe Rogan congratulated the Brazilian fighter for his victory as he said, “You showed it tonight with one of the most beautiful wheel kick performances I have ever seen inside the Octagon.”As the fight started, the Fighting Nerd star made sure to keep his composure against the veteran UFC lightweight. Green was against the cage when Rufffy threw the devastating spinning wheel kick out of nowhere.

As the kick connected with King Green’s head, the fighter crumbled like a broken cookie, hugging the canvas. The referee stopped the fight as the doctors stepped in to check on Green. The veteran fighter, bleeding from his nose, remained on the canvas for a moment before finally standing up. Ruffy’s victory improves his UFC record to 3-0, and a performance like this is sure to bring even greater attention to his next fight.

In his statement, Ruffy further added, “Listen I’ve been thinking at home so many times, what it would take for a fighter to get two bonuses in one night? Maybe two bonuses for the night?” Will he earn the bonus? With that kind of performance, absolutely. However, the idea of a double bonus seems a bit far-fetched for the Brazilian star. Well, interestingly, ahead of the fight, Ruffy in his statement gave us a sneak peek about what he was going to do to King Green.

The moment when Mauricio Ruffy laid out his plan for UFC 313

Although Green had the wrestling pedigree, he failed to use it inside the Octagon today. Many expected that the battle would unfold on the feet and they appeared to be true. His style makes him an ideal foil for Ruffy—pushing his cardio to the limit while challenging his ability to counter, control range, and stay mentally sharp. Yet, despite the hurdles, Ruffy finished his opponent in round one. While having a conversation with the UFC, the ‘Fighting Nerd’ star emphasized what he would do with Green.

“I’m just a better fighter all around in every area possible. I don’t think that there’s an advantage on his side. I think that he’s not ready for that kind of pressure. In his prime, I don’t think he would be ready for this kind of decision making, for the pressure that I’m going to puton him, for all the alternatives and the things that are going to happen. I don’t think that he’s got a solution for this,” said Mauricio Ruffy.

Well, now that Ruffy has defeated King Green, nothing can stop his ascent into the top 15 of the division. Notably, the Brazilian has already called out his next opponent, expressing his desire to face Beneil Dariush next.
