Tom Aspinall shared a few words of wisdom and they seem to have fallen on the perfect ears. The fighter currently enjoys a number 4 ranking in the heavyweight division at the UFC. This year, he secured a win by knocking out Marcin Tybura at UFC Fight Night on the 23rd of July. The fighter has great technique and can go toe-to-toe with some of the world’s greatest.

This includes Eddie Hall. Hall was once the world’s strongest man. Known for his ability to lift a near-insane amount of weight and his funny way of interacting with his guests, Hall invited Aspinall for a training session. The lifter then uploaded the video on his YouTube channel with a pretty interesting conversation. Here’s everything important from the video.

Aspinall must’ve been riding an all-time high after securing his win over number 11 Tybura. However, once he secured his win, he went on to call out Jon Jones, the current heavyweight champion. He wanted to fight Jones and defeat him to take the title home. Sadly, all he got in response to his callouts was “sounds good lol”. Jones’ tweet was nothing short of underwhelming. However, it looks like the fighter has moved on from the dry response and has interesting insight on how to train.

“It all depends on how your mentality is in the gym, I think,” started Aspinall. “Like if you’re willing to learn and put yourself in bad situations and lose rounds to learn then your improvement will be massive. But a lot of guys especially big guys, especially now because they only train with heavyweights, a lot of big guys just want to win all the time. They’re great at being the hammer, sh*t at being the nail and you have to be willing to be the nail to improve.”

Aspinall’s advice is backed by years of experience. On the other hand, while Hall may be a brilliant strongman, he’s not much of a UFC fighter. He was taken aback by Aspinall’s ability to toy around with him on the mat. The lifter later implied how he wanted to fight other strongmen like Mitchell Hooper.

After Jones left him high and dry, Aspinall decided to keep moving forward with his plans. Currently, the fighter is not scheduled for another fight this year. Notably, he doesn’t quite do too many fights every year. A smart approach for someone who wants to keep his record as clean as possible. Right now, Aspinall stands at a record of 13-3.

What’s next for Aspinall and Jones?

Jon Jones is all set to defend his title against Stipe Miocic at UFC 295. A heavyweight fight that has everyone excited and filling up the seats of the Madison Square Garden in New York. The fight goes down at UFC 295 and Jones has been preparing with submission master Gordon Ryan to hopefully make Miocic tap out.

On the other end of the spectrum, Tom Aspinall still hopes to take on Jones one day. He’s not too far away from that number 1 spot in the division. However, there is just one hitch in his plans, Jones may just retire after his next fight. ‘Bones’ has indicated that he’s thinking about defeating Miocic and then retiring in grand fashion.
