Drug tests are an important part of sports. These tests help prevent athletes from using performance-enhancing drugs to gain an upper hand during competitions. However, there are times when some athletes are tested more than they would have liked to. Similarly, former UFC champion Jiri Prochazka was subject to an extraordinary amount of drug tests in 2022.

Jiri Prochazka claimed that it did not matter how much he got tested

During an interview with ‘CBS Sports‘, Jiri Prochazka mentioned that he had connected with the USADA officials many times through his manager. The doping agency would often exercise its authority to test the Czech fighter on a frequent basis. Prochazka said, “I spoke with them many times through my manager. All the time they [say that] they can do that, so let’s do that.”

Jiri Prochazka wasn’t sure of the motive behind USADA’s frequent drug tests. He ideated that these tactics were used on him as a means of putting him under pressure to conform to their rules. However, it did not matter much to him. “It doesn’t matter. I don’t know if that was something to make me feel pressure, to make pressure for me, but it doesn’t matter. For me, it doesn’t matter,” said the former champion. Moreover, there was one instance when the USADA followed Jiri Prochazka to a concert to collect his test samples.

UFC fighters are also normal human beings with their own interests. Outside of the Octagon, they often indulge in leisure activities. As such, Jiri Prochazka once went to a concert to enjoy some time with his friends. Yet, the USADA followed him to that venue and claimed that they had to test the former champion. Prochazka further stated, “I was at a concert. They came to this event, and they had to test me.”

However, Prochazka had no qualms about submitting his test samples to the doping agency. He gave them what they wanted and reverted to enjoying the concert. “I went with them and gave them all the blood and urine. Then I came back to enjoy the party,” The Czech fighter added. Moreover, that year, Prochazka completed a total of 64 drug tests.

The UFC’s partnership with USADA will come to an end in 2023. After this, their new drug-testing partners will be Drug Free Sport International. As such, there are chances that fighters like Jiri Prochazka may not need to do as many tests as USADA asked him to. We will have to wait and see how this partnership turns out for Dana White‘s promotion.
