The women’s bantamweight bout between Mayra Bueno Silva and Macy Chiasson at UFC 303 ended in disappointment for Bueno Silva! Mayra Bueno Silva gets in Dana White’s face after UFC 303 stoppage loss

The fight between Mayra Bueno Silva and Macy Chiasson at UFC 303 began with the Brazilian attempting to pressure Chiasson. The first round was a back-and-forth affair for the most part, filled with impressive moments for both women, with Silva attempting takedowns that were met with resistance from her opponent.

But in the second round, Chiasson turned the tables on the Brazilian as she took her down and landed a huge elbow that split Bueno Silva open just above her eyebrow. While she attempted a submission with blood pouring down her face, Chiasson disengaged and stepped back to let her opponent get back to her feet.

However, the referee in charge called a stop to the action as he called over the cage-side doctor to come in and take a look at the severity of the cut. After an examination of the wound which appeared to be significantly deep and bleeding profusely, the fight was stopped with Chiasson being declared a winner via TKO due to the injury.

This incensed Bueno Silva so much that she jumped out of the cage and confronted UFC CEO Dana White as she affirmed that she wasn’t being hampered by the injury and was ready to continue if it wasn’t for the doctor’s decision. The fight’s controversial stoppage will undoubtedly be a topic of discussion and debate among fans and analysts, adding another layer of intrigue to UFC 303. But what’s next for Chiasson after this crucial win that may now put her in the top 5 of the division?

Possible match-ups in the future for the women’s bantamweight division

A win over Mayra Bueno Silva has now put Macy Chiasson on a 2-fight winning streak and a possible move up to the top 5 of the women’s bantamweight division currently ruled over by champion, Raquel Pennington. Reports online indicate that the champion is currently scheduled to defend her title at UFC 307 in October against no.1 contender and former champion, Julianna Pena who hasn’t fought since losing the belt to Amanda Nunes at UFC 277 in 2022.

As such, a clash between Kayla Harrison, currently ranked no. 4 in the division, would make sense for Chiasson as Harrison recently stated in an interview during the UFC’s 2024 Hall of Fame ceremony, “I’ll fight anyone. Not saying no to anybody.”

In conclusion, it appears that the future of the women’s bantamweight division is filled with intriguing matchups that may lead to some spectacular fights for the fandom.
