The MMA community went into a frenzy after the UFC heavyweight champion Jon Jones faced off against Francis Ngannou at PFL 5. Although the video clips from the incident went viral on social media, the face-off left a sour taste in UFC legend Chael Sonnen‘s mouth. He criticized them in a recent YouTube video.
A potential match between Jon Jones and Francis Ngannou is considered to be a big-money dream matchup. Fans are clamoring to see the two heavyweights take on each other. However, the fact that both fighters work for different organizations has made it all the more impossible for the fight to happen.

Chael Sonnen claims Francis Ngannou will never fight Jon Jones
‘The American Gangster’ doesn’t believe that Ngannou’s fight with the reigning UFC champion will ever come to fruition. It is particularly due to his allegiance with the PFL. Furthermore, the news of ‘The Predator’ planning to fight next year also creates a lot of ambiguity surrounding his MMA career. Sonnen said, “They cannot fight each other. They can’t do it. Francis is in a different organization. Francis isn’t even fighting anymore for all I know. He’s [going to fight] next year or something like this.”
He believes that the heavyweight goliaths came face-to-face because they are aware that their fight may never happen. Additionally, Sonnen pointed out how people are trying to find out what they were talking about at the event. However, the UFC legend claims that it does not matter whatever conversation they had with each other because there is no endgame. “It didn’t matter what was said at all,” said Chael Sonnen. He added, “It doesn’t really make a bit of difference.”
‘The American Gangster’ criticizes the face-off
Jones’ former opponent, Sonnen, appears to dislike the way both Jon Jones and Francis Ngannou faced off. Both faced each other in the octagon back in 2013. The clash resulted in Bones’ victory in round 1 via TKO.
Sonnen further revealed, “Whatever make-believe tough guy story they would like to do, they both came in here with the absolute protection of knowing we can’t fight each other.” On the contrary, the UFC legend claims that the fight could have been possible a year ago.

Additionally, Chael Sonnen mentioned how none of the fighters tried to approach each other when there was a possibility of a matchup. But when the possibility grew thinner, they decided to get on each other’s faces and ignite the MMA community. He added, “As soon as it cannot happen, you put them in the building together where you go face-to-face? That is some cowardly, cowardly stuff to the highest level.”
