Canelo Alvarez made the headlines yesterday when he took a cheeky dig at talks of Kamaru Usman super-fight. Appearing on MMA journalist Ariel Helwani’s show, he was asked about the prospect of facing the Nigerian nightmare. In his typical Latin accent, he responded to them with hilarious “payday, payday” chants. And Kamaru Usman has now responded by savaging the entire boxing community.

In an exclusive interview with TMZ, Usman said, “Boxing is dead. Boxing is dead, at the end of the day. I’m not saying that there are good boxers. There’s some fantastic boxers… but boxing is dying. At the end of the day, everybody wants to be entertained.

And when have you ever seen pound-for-pound against the pound-for-pound (number 1)? I am not afraid to go over there and challenge. I am not afraid to do that, but unfortunately those guys, not even Canelo, will never come here to challenge.”

He is referencing the fact that, although the UFC fighters are willing to crossover to boxing, the same cannot be said for their counterparts. But of course, the bigger payday lies in the field of boxing.

He finally added – “Listen, he can overlook all he wants to overlook. But he’s fighting guys over there that nobody knows.”
