

Dana White is a big boxing buff. He holds Muhammad Ali in high regard and has kept several posters of the boxing maestro in his office. Back in 2014, a tweet from the boxing legend overwhelmed the UFC president. Dana White got a Tweet from Ali, asking him if he [Ali] was the original MMA fighter. Ali was visibly holding a fighter’s legs in the tweet.

Antonio Inoki had invited Ali to Japan in 1976. ‘The Greatest’ participated in a crossover event against professional wrestler Inoki. Also, the fight was watched by massive 1.4 Billion people across the world.
Dana White had called Ali ‘the original everything’, replying to the tweet. Fans consider the crossover fight as the predecessor of modern-day MMA. The special fight had some very interesting rules and ended in a controversial draw.
Muhammad Ali Tweets out to Dana White
The legendary boxer sent a tweet to Dana White and asked if he was the original MMA fighter. He tweeted “What you think @DanaWhite? Muhammad Ali – the original #MMA fighter? @ufc”

Responding to Ali, the UFC boss said, “@MuhammadAli U sir are the original EVERYTHING! Ur the reason combat sports is where it is 2day Greatest tweet ive ever recieved Im honored”.
Years later, White compared Irish fighter Conor McGregor with Muhammad Ali for his strong mental game against opposition fighters.

The War of Worlds
The 1976 crossover fight between Muhammad Ali and Antonio Inoki was one of a kind. The fight happened with a different set of rules. Inoki was barred from grappling or throwing Muhammad Ali. While ‘The greatest’ challenged Inoki to get up and fight, in a strange move, Inoki stayed on his back and threw a whopping 107 kicks at Ali.

A frustrated Ali had resorted to grabbing Inoki‘s legs with his gloved hands. Crossover events that combine multiple combat sports have always intrigued fans.
