BREAKING: Alexander Gustafsson to Return to UFC Action in London- Will No Longer Fight at Heavyweight

Alexander Gustafsson last competed in the UFC back in July 2020. ‘The Mauler’ faced Fabricio Werdum at the UFC on ESPN 14 event and lost via a 1st round submission. Since then there has been much speculation but no news of the fighters’ UFC return.

Now latest news suggests that Gustafsson is all set to return to action later this year. However, the fighter will not return to Heavyweight instead will move down back to 205. This news was first revealed by Frontkick.online on their Twitter page.

“BREAKING NEWS: @AlexTheMauler has decided to leave heavyweight–will return to 205 for his next UFC bout according to sources. He’s expected to fight in the late summer or early fall.”

Now latest news by MMA Junkie reveals that Gustafsson will face Paul Craig at a UFC event in September. While the UFC is yet to reveal the final location of the event, initial reports suggest that the event will take place in London.

Leading up to the fight between Alexander Gustafsson and Paul Craig

Craig is coming into the fight on the back of a 3 match winning streak. The fighter defeated Jamahal Hill at the UFC 263 event via a first-round TKO. ‘Bearjew’ would look to continue that momentum when he faces Gustafsson.

While Craig is on a three-fight win streak, ‘The Mauler’ is on a three-fight losing streak. Gustafsson last won a UFC fight back in 2017 when he defeated Glover Teixeira via a 5th round KO.

Gustafsson’s current MMA record reads 18-7. However, at one point the fighter had a professional MMA record of 15-1. The fighter’s MMA career started going downhill since he faced Jon Jones for the UFC light heavyweight title at UFC 165. Since then the fighter was never able to win more than two fights in a row and lost fights against Daniel Cormier, Anthony Johnson, and Jon Jones again.

Now coming into this fight, both fighters would look for a victory. While Gustafsson would love to finally get back to winning ways, Craig would want to improve his standing in the Light heavyweight division.
