The UFC called off the strawweight contest between Amanda Ribas and Angela Hill hours before the commencement of UFC Fight Night: Rodriguez vs Waterson. This development came as Ribas tested positive for COVID. Now, it remains to be seen whether the UFC reschedules the bout.
‘Overkill’ took to Twitter to wish her opponent a speedy recovery. In a video posted on Twitter, Hill said, “Hey, Amanda Ribas, sorry this happened to you. I have been through it before. Wish you a speedy recovery and hopefully see you in 2 weeks.”

Ribas posted a message on Instagram. She wrote, “I tested positive for covid in the last test, it may be a false positive. The commission decided to cancel this fight. God is in control ❤️ I WILL FIGHT! I don’t know when haha but I will fight! Obs .: I’ve had covid.”
The 27-year-old Brazilian was coming off a T/KO loss against Marina Rodriguez in her last fight. That was Ribas‘s first loss in the UFC. She was hoping for a quick turnaround and was looking to get back to the win column of the UFC. However, her hopes took a major hit with the positive test for coronavirus. One can only hope Ribas recovers quickly and gets back in action as soon as possible.

Meanwhile, Hill was coming off a decision win against Ashley Yoder in March. That ended her 2-fight split decision losing streak. The Alliance MMA trainee was looking to move to the upper echelon of the strawweight division with a win over Ribas.
Should the UFC re-book Amanda Ribas vs Angela Hill?
The strawweight contest was very intriguing. It was a crucial one in terms of the division’s current status. Hence, the eleventh-hour cancellation was very unfortunate for the UFC, the fans, and the fighters.
