Former interim UFC lightweight title contender Kevin Lee was recently removed from the UFC fan rankings pool. This news comes after the Nevada Athletic Commission suspended Lee for six months after testing positive for Adderall. It is a banned substance that he was using to treat ADHD. He tested positive for the substance, following his fight against Daniel Rodriguez at UFC Vegas 35 in August 2021.

MMA reporter Aaron Bronsteter broke the news on his Twitter. He wrote, “Kevin Lee has been removed from the UFC fan rankings pool. Lee recently revealed that he had been flagged for a banned substance, which may be the cause for his removal.”

Since the announcement of his suspension, Lee has issued an apology for his lack of professionalism. According to him, it was a mistake on his part, as he didn’t apply for therapeutic-use exemption (TUE). He thought it would be out of his system by the time of his fight.

In an interview with The MMA Hour, he said, “I thought that I would be fine without it and that it just would get out of my system much faster. But I think not cutting as much weight, I should have applied for the TUE. I’m still kind of kicking myself in the a** over it because it’s a legit prescription, it’s a legit diagnosis and I think I just went about it in an unprofessional way to get that done.”

Kevin Lee and his struggles with ADHD

‘The Motown Phenom’ was first diagnosed with ADHD in 2018, but just kept doing what he used to do until 2020. That is when he was prescribed Adderall. It was when he was recovering from his second knee surgery that he realized he needed help.

He was asked if it works as a performance enhancer, to which he said, “It’s not a performance-enhancer at least from what I can tell from it, from using it. It definitely worked. It enhances life for sure, and it helped me to solve a lot of issues that I’ve been dealing with for a very, very long time.”

He did say that it didn’t make him bigger, stronger, or faster in any way. Following the news of his suspension, he posted a video on his Instagram, dumping his Adderall.

He vowed to get off alcohol as well and said he hadn’t been drunk in a month. He was embarrassed about the whole situation and was expecting a lot of backlash, which, to his surprise, never came.
