UFC middleweights Paulo Costa and Marvin Vettori will go head-to-head in a UFC Fight Night main event clash on October 23. Both men were rumored to be dance partners for a while now and the fight is finally official. The MMA community is excited with the booking of the contest given the implications the fight has for the middleweight title landscape.

Costa and Vettori are both coming off losses to Israel Adesanya in their respective title fights and it’s clear that they want to bounce back. While Costa was decisively finished, Vettori put forth a valiant display but ultimately fell short. The winner could potentially rebound in a huge way and earn his spot back to the top with a finish.

Paulo Costa vs Marvin Vettori: An overview

Costa vs Vettori offers high-paced action in the striking realm as both men look to assert their presence inside the cage. The Brazilian is a marauding force who doesn’t take a step back, even if it’s to his detriment. On the other hand, while Vettori is known to be overzealous in his own right, he has also shown a high fight IQ in certain spots.

Paulo Costa displayed a mixture of brute striking offense as well as a high level of durability in his fight against You Romero. The Cuban ‘Solider of God’ was considered the gold standard litmus test in the middleweight division during his tenure. Costa passed the test with flying colors and is definitely someone who can compete at the highest level.

As for Vettori, his title shot against Israel Adesanya at UFC 263 came off the back of some rather clinical wins. He racked up five straight wins in the division with his most notable display coming against Kevin Holland. He was able to drag Holland to the canvas at will and assert his game on the ground with relative ease.

In the event that Costa begins to overwhelm him on the feet, Marvin Vettori will be well advised to take the Brazilian down. However, this can be easier said than done especially when considering the heat with which Paulo Costa wings his shots. All in all, fans can expect an all-time barn-burner with plenty of stakes attached to it come Fight Night.
