BREAKING; UFC Heavyweight Title Fight Between Francis Ngannou and Derrick Lewis Gets Delayed

Francis Ngannou vs Derrick Lewis 2 was touted to be the first defense of Ngannou’s title. That fight was targeted for August. However, it seems like fans might have to wait a bit more to see the two giants throw down. According to reports, the fight is expected to take place in September now.

UFC hoped to book Francis Ngannou x Derrick Lewis 2 for Aug. 7 but that is currently looking like a long shot at this point, sources say. Scheduling conflicts. Nothing finalized at the moment but September is now a new target, I’m told,” wrote Ariel Helwani on Twitter.

Ngannou captured the UFC heavyweight title at UFC 260. He knocked out the consensus greatest heavyweight of all time, Stipe Miocic in an emphatic manner to capture the throne.

The Predator’ was expected to fight Jon Jones in the first defense of his title. However, disagreements regarding payment between the UFC and ‘Bones’ meant that fight won’t happen anytime soon. So, Lewis, who is on a stellar run currently, is set to be Ngannou’s next dance partner.

Lewis is currently on a 4-fight winning streak in the heavyweight division of the UFC. His last 2 fights have ended in vicious knockouts against the likes of Alexey Oleynik and Curtis Blaydes.

Derrick Lewis vs Francis Ngannou 2: What to expect?

Lewis and Ngannou have previously fought at UFC 226 with ‘The Black Beast’ claiming a decision win. Many expected the fight to be a cracker. Both Lewis and Ngannou are two of the scariest knockout artists in the history of the UFC. However, their fight turned out to be one of the most boring ones in recent memory.

The two giants respected each other’s power too much. That forced either man to take a more cautious approach during the contest. So, they both didn’t go out all guns blazing as they were expected to. Nevertheless, it will be interesting to see how the contest plays out when they clash this time.
