In a classic case of over-promising and under-delivering, there is widespread feeling among fans that Dana White-led UFC dropped the ball on UFC 300. The anniversary card, like UFC 100 and 200, was expected to have the best possible fights headlined by a bout to knock fans’ socks off.

Not to mention Dana White’s tall claims and promises to fans that culminated in the card being headlined by a clash between Alex Pereira and Jamahal Hill for ‘Poatan’s light heavyweight title. Not a bad fight by any stretch, but it is not quite Jones vs. Cormier or Lesnar vs. Mir. And former UFC heavyweight and podcaster Brendan Schaub agrees.

Schaub thinks UFC 299 is better than UFC 300

Talking about the upcoming UFC 299 on episode #375 of his ‘Schaub Show’ on YouTube, comedian and Joe Rogan‘s friend Brendan Schaub couldn’t help but point out that he felt the Miami card was qualitatively better than UFC 300 as it had a better lineup of fights from top to bottom.

“UFC 300, big deal. I do think from top to bottom UFC 299 is a better card. I’m not saying UFC 300 is awful I’m just saying for it being 300, I think 299 is an overall better card from top to bottom. I mean just the prelims on ESPN are filthy and I’m not mad at the early prelims, either.”

‘Big Brown’ felt that along with having better matchups, all fights on the UFC 299 main card were consequential ones that would determine the course of many of the fighter’s career. “UFC 299 should be a fork in the road. UFC 299 Miami fork in the road. Everyone on the main card especially, it’s kind of a fork in the road. They win, they’re going this way, they lose they’re going this way, meaning the chances of becoming a contender or world champion is pretty much over.”

UFC 299 and 300 may see the passing of the torch at lightweight

UFC 300 will also feature a much-awaited clash between young and hungry lightweight phenom Arman Tsarukyan and former champion and UFC veteran Charles Oliveira. This fight is expected to serve as the number one title contender bout for a shot at the 155-pound gold. Oliveira, originally scheduled to rematch divisional champion Islam Makhachev at UFC 294 last year, had to pull out due to an injury he sustained close to the fight.

But he will have to earn his rematch and get through Tsarukyan, which, at least on paper, seems like an uphill task for ‘Do Bronx’. Echoes of this bout can be found in the electrifying UFC 299 clash between #3 ranked Dustin Poirier and dangerous lightweight prospect Benoit Saint-Denis, with the stakes even higher for Poirier, who will be going into his thirtieth UFC fight. Both newcomers are favored to win their fights, in which case, the lightweight division will have some serious future contenders, and a changing of guards.
