Gilbert Burns is one of the most noted fighters in the UFC Welterweight Division. Fans know the Brazilian for his superior grappling and heavy striking, which also comes with a ‘never-give up’ mentality. Burns went to an absolute war with the coveted Khamzat Chimaev earlier this year in a fight that won the ‘fight of the night’ award. But since then it has been all wait for ‘Durinho’. His next alleged opponent Jorge Masvidal has shown no interest in signing the fight contract despite assuring that the match would happen.

Burns clarified in one of his August 2022 interviews that the UFC had asked him to fight ‘Gambred’ on 12 November. However, the date started getting pushed to December and January and hasn’t been confirmed to date.

Gilbert Burns also tweeted his wait for Jorge Masvidal

In the same interview, Burns also stated that the UFC informed him about Masvidal saying “Oh, he’s not good, he had a procedure on his wrist”. He also sounded frustrated not to have received any official confirmation of the fight yet. He said, “For me, it’s simple. If you wanna fight, we’ll fight. If you don’t wanna fight, just say it, I’m going to the next one”.

He also attempted to get heard by Masvidal saying, “Jorge, if you don’t wanna fight, it’s all good my brother, no hard feelings, my respect to you. Just give the word, say no.” He ended, saying, “It’s on you right now”.

‘Durinho’s’ recent tweet showcased a snap of Pablo Escobar, from the Netflix show Narcos, standing and staring into nothingness implying his wait for his next matchup against Masvidal.

He also captioned his post, “Jorge???“. His tweet implied that it was getting unbearable for him to wait for his fight contract to get signed.

The fans dissed Masvidal saying he’s scared

The fans have had enough of waiting and went guns blazing at Jorge Masvidal. A lot of fans replied to Burns’ tweet in the same tone, dissing ‘Gambred’ about being scared to fight Burns.

One Twitter user wrote, “He’s scared”. He ended his comment with a laugh-out emoji, clarifying his mocking tone. Another one wrote, “Jorge is very scared, Neil Magny is not”. Burns’ fellow Welterweight fighter, Neil Magny, had called him out after his last win. This fan included this fact in his comment as well.

One more follower of Burn’s wrote, “he soo afraid, he doesnt want you amigo !! yewwwwwwwww hehehe”. The Masvidal mockery was apparent here as well. Another fan replied with a hilarious snap. His comment read, “Jorge watching everyone like:” along with a picture implying that Masvidal was trying to hide from Burns and the UFC audience.

One more fan provided the perfect reply stating, “Why is Jorge dodging. I mean the match-up makes sense, especially for us fans.” A fan even made a mockery out of Masvidal’s name writing, “Bumvidal still waiting another undeserved title shot”.

Another one continued the same tone as he wrote, “Dudes so scared he’s washed”.

The coveted scrap between Lennox Lewis and Mike Tyson in 2002 was when I realized the passion for combat sports within my family. My interest in combat sports began watching scripted pro wrestling shows. It was my father who directed me towards combat sports and it wasn’t until the late 2010s that I discovered the world of MMA and the UFC. Like many of you, I too, tuned in for the infamous Nurmagomedov vs. McGregor bout live on October 6, 2018. Being an ardent fan of the UFC (and Dustin ‘The Diamond’ Poirier), I was always looking to have conversations about the same with others. But to my disappointment, I hardly found any followers of the sports to interact with. So I took it upon myself to do my part in popularizing the thrill and the agony behind the purest form of unarmed combat. At EssentiallySports, I try to bring the readers closer to the athletes and focus my coverage on exploring the human side of these martial artists. I’m a musician during my time free from reporting MMA. I operate as the lead vocalist of a rock band that aims to make their mark among the audiences with their original alternative-hard rock songs.
