With the weight of BKFC promotional duties on his shoulders, will Conor McGregor ever carve out time to fight again? It’s the burning question echoing across the MMA world. The former two-division champion has been absent from combat sports for nearly four years, offering nothing but teases and training clips that hint at a return. His latest footage reignited speculation—but this time, fans weren’t so forgiving.

“I’m happy with what I’ve done. You know, there’s something else for me that’s in my gut right now. That’s kind of where I’m going,” said Conor McGregor at the BKFC 70 post-fight press conference late March 2025. ‘Mystic Mac’ ascertained that he is satisfied with what he has achieved till now and indicated that he might want to shift his focus towards his political ambitions in Ireland after venturing into business and MMA.

After launching business ventures like Proper Twelve, Forged Irish Stout, TIDL, and many more, Conor McGregor has been making strong efforts to secure a seat in the Irish Parliament. Although he has been unsuccessful so far, knowing McGregor, certainly, he won’t give up on his ambition to earn a place at the high table.

Amidst his busy schedule, the Irish fighter has started uploading his training footage quite frequently. We received a clip from Conor McGregor last Sunday, and now he has shared another one on his Instagram handle. The training footage shows McGregor working on his striking skills.

Most recently, he hinted at a return during the BKFC press conference in Florence in February. ‘The Notorious’ promised fans he would step into the bare-knuckle ring: “Yes, yes. The warrior spirit burns strong inside me. For sure. If you think I’m up here giving these speeches and leading these men into battle and I won’t step in there myself, think again.”

He further added, “For sure, Conor McGregor will fight in Bare Knuckle Fighting Championship, mark my words.” Time and time again, ‘Mystic Mac’ has confirmed his return, but when? That is the question that is yet to be answered. Let us have a look at what the fans have to say.

Retirement call for Conor McGregor as fans witness training footage

Conor McGregor was originally scheduled to fight Michael Chandler last year at UFC 303, but the bout never happened as ‘Mystic Mac’ withdrew due to a pinky toe injury. Since then, there has been no official announcement regarding McGregor’s comeback. However, he has repeatedly teased a return. In response to this, a social media user urged, “Stop teasing me bruh, I’m convinced you’re not coming back…”

Is Conor McGregor becoming slow? Well, if consistency is broken in the world of MMA, then it’s very difficult to get back to form. His training footage did look professional, but fans believe he appeared slower compared to his earlier days. One fan recalled his iconic lines and wrote, “And I quote “You’re too slow and too stiff. You’re stiff as a board. I see stiffness when I look in that 155-pound division. I feel like they’re stuck in the mud almost. I had my eye on that 155 division, and I see them all stuck in the mud over there.”

Interestingly, his last training footage was marred by accusations, with one fan stating that McGregor uploads these videos because BKFC investors might have their eye on him.

Conor McGregor also  found support from a fan who believes it would be amazing to see him fight again,“Would be sick to see Conor fight again but its all good if he never does, man changed sport forever, retired his bloodline, & does whatever he wants.”

Moreover, another fan came forward to express their interest in witnessing McGregor fight.“Just want to see conor fight in the octagon one more time…” Furthermore, another social media user highlighted his doubts about McGregor’s return, “Not gnnna lie Connor looking slow!!! Please DON’T fight again!!! You don’t need the money!!”

Interestingly, back in February, Chael Sonnen shut down talk of a McGregor comeback when he advised the UFC in a video not to book him for a fight, “We’re supposed to believe that Conor [McGregor] not only can return from that same [injury as Weidman], he can return better…Conor McGregor is not in a position with anybody under contract at the UFC to protect himself at all times.”

He further added, “It’s a silly proposition and that is just the truth…If you’re talking about any level of responsibility, you can’t book him and you definitely can’t book him in a five-round fight, that’s insane.” Four years away from combat will certainly take a toll on your experience, and Chael Sonnen highlighted the same point.
