While having a conversation with Inside Fighting, Jon Jones’s longtime coach, Brandon Gibson emphasized that his victory at UFC 309 was a milestone that will play a pivotal role in shaping the decision about his future. However, he stated that he would be happy if Jones retired from the sport right now. He admitted, “I think John’s the greatest martial artist on the planet. So, if he wants to compete, great. But, also, there’s a big part of me that, like, if they can’t come to terms on a negotiation or a deal, I’m just fine with that being Jon’s last performance. Yeah, and I know Jones is too,” said Gibson.
He further added, “So, and I also have no problem with Jon taking breaks. Like, we’ve seen Jon with long layoffs, and ring rust isn’t really something that affects him. He actually thrives when there’s an extra-long camp. And, you know, we’re students of the game, and we just continue to study and evolve our game plan every chance we get.”

Francis Ngannou defends Jon Jones amid Tom Aspinall fight fiasco
Francis Ngannou and Jon Jones may be fierce rivals, but they share a deep mutual respect. While the MMA world has criticized Jones following the Aspinall situation, Ngannou has stepped forward to defend him, stating that the claims suggesting Jon Jones is afraid to fight Aspinall are unfounded and lack any solid evidence. While having a conversation with TMZ, Ngannou added, “They [the UFC] use that in the negotiation to say ‘Oh no he doesn’t want to fight this guy, he’s scared,’ and then that’s how the machine works. And I think he’s[Jones is] in the position to claim like what he wants.”
He further added, “As he said he said Aspinall needs that fight, I don’t need it. And when you look at it [its] pretty much true. There’s nothing that he’s going to make, have more in winning that fight, if it’s not money, you know. But for Aspinall, who is someone coming and trying to cement his way in the division, that would be everything.”
