After his second failed attempt to conquer the UFC lightweight gold, the former interim champion Dustin Poirier expressed his interest in moving up a division to clash against the Stockton native Nate Diaz.
Both the fighters have verbally agreed to fight. However, the UFC is yet to make the fight official. Both Diaz and ‘The Diamond’ are prominent names in the sport. Although the fighters have been in the UFC for a long time, the former two-division champion Henry Cejudo believes their clash with Irish star Conor McGregor made them a big name.

In a recent interaction with Helen Yee, ‘The Messenger’ said, “Yeah, I think so they get a chance to make money. And you got to remember who made both of those Conor McGregor. You know, they both beat Conor and they become famous because of Conor.”
“And now they can both make money because of Conor. So they should fight even if they can make that fight happen. I love what’s Nate is doing. I think you keep people involved. Because the reality is if the fans ask for you, you will get the fight,”– Cejudo concluded.
The Stockton native and ‘The Notorious’ one have fought twice in their career. At UFC 196, Diaz defeated McGregor via submission in the second round. And in their rematch in the same year, the Stockton’s second child suffered a defeat at the hands of the Irishman.
Meanwhile, ‘The Diamond’ and McGregor have crossed their paths thrice. First, the latter defeated Poirier in 2014. Later, the Louisiana native defeated McGregor twice last year, making the score 2-1 in favor of Poirier.
Dustin Poirier shuts the door for a fourth fight with Conor McGregor
‘The Notorious’ faced a gruesome injury in his blockbuster trilogy with ‘The Diamond at UFC 264. However, the former two-division champion wasn’t done yet. He asked for a fourth fight with his arch-rival then and there.

However, the quadrilogy with McGregor is currently not under Poirier’s radar. In his recent media appearance at UFC 271, the former interim lightweight champion said, “I am probably not gonna fight Conor again. I don’t really wanna fight Conor again. For me, that door is closed. The only reason I do it is for money, you know. I beat him two times in a row.”
Although ‘The Diamond’ has denied the fourth fight with McGregor, a lucrative check might change his mind. However, before any of that, we might soon see him collide with the fan-favorite Diaz, in his retirement fight.
