Sonnen believes if Poirier walks away with the world title at UFC 269, then it will negatively impact Irish Superstar Conor McGregor. As Conor McGregor has already suffered two heartbreaking losses to Dustin Poirier, it would definitely put him out of the title picture.

He said, “No human being can get better at something by not doing it. I think that Conor McGregor is still wonderful. I think he’s got a very special place. Not only within the sport, which is at the very top, but also within the rankings. This is a damn good fighter, but you are talking about 155 pounders.”

“The hardest, deepest division. The sport has ever seen, not just the organization, the industry as a whole. 155 is the deepest that it comes. Conor is pretty set on fighting Dustin Poirier. If Poirier beats Olivera as the oddsmaker thinks he is going to do. I don’t think there is a scenario where Conor comes back, even for a grudge match into a title fight. That’s a tough sell.”

Is Chael Sonnen right about Conor’s chances at lightweight? The Irish fighter sports a negative record in that division and hasn’t won a fight in that division for well over 5 years. This will definitely make McGregor vs Poirier 4 impossible for the matchmakers should ‘The Diamond’ win at UFC 269.
