Khamzat Chimaev is having a little trouble finding his next opponent. While the rising prospect is on the lookout, former UFC middleweight, Chael Sonnen advised him to stay away from one fighter.

The Swedish welterweight is currently on a 4 win streak after making his UFC debut back in 2020. He has finished his last 3 fights in the very first round. Additionally, he has been calling people left, right, and center. The list of people he has called out includes Brock Lesnar, Georges St-Pierre, and Daniel Cormier.

Recently, during an interview with Submission Radio, Chael was asked his opinion on Chimaev. The 44-year-old suggested that Khamzat shouldn’t fight Colby Covington.

He shared, “Chimaev can do a lot of things and he’s very impressive, he is best served at this point in his career to keep Colby Covington’s name out of his mouth because you’re only going to poke that bear so many times and that is not a wonderful match-up for anybody, but if Chimaev has his druthers, stay the hell away from Colby.”

During the same interview, Chael also showed his interest in a potential matchup between Chimaev and Neil Magny. He first praised Chimaev by saying, ” I talked to guys that are in the room with the guys that train guys that watch him and I just ask them very privately ‘Is he as good as I think he is?’ and they all say yes. They say, in fact, he’s much better on his feet than he has ever shown.”

Sonnen continued, “He might even be as good on his feet as he is on the ground, which would be a scary thought if that turns out to be true. But I want to see more Chimaev. I want to see Chimaev and Neil Magny. I don’t know what’s taking so long to sign that fight.
