Former 185-pound title contender Chael Sonnen believes Robert Whittaker won ‘four rounds to two’ in his rematch with Israel Adesanya at UFC 271.

In one iteration of his ESPN show, The Chael Sonnen Show, ‘The American Gangster; claimed that Adesanya vs. Whittaker 2 was a really close decision and he even thought that ‘The Reaper’ would come out as the champion.

“Very close match and in all fairness, I thought that we are gonna have a new champion. When that fight had concluded, I thought Robert Whittaker had won 3 rounds to 2 and possibly, 4 rounds to 2,” Sonnen said.

In his UFC days, Chael Sonnen was known for his ultimate trash talking skills, a skill that swiftly became his brand. Although Sonnen gets a lot of heat for it, he prefers to remain in his humorous and sarcastic persona. Just a week ago, UFC judge Sal D’Amato also faced MMA fans’ wrath for his erratic judgment in Sean Strickland‘s fight against Jack Hermansson.

That said, even Robert Whittaker himself conceded defeat against ‘The Last Stylebender’ and is already looking forward to a trilogy.

Will Robert Whittaker fight Israel Adesanya again?

Just after coming out of the cage against Adesanya, Robert Whittaker, at the post-fight presser for UFC 271, called out the middleweight king once again for a trilogy.

“A third fight between me and Izzy is inevitable. It’s inevitable because I am gonna stomp anybody who comes in front of me again and he knows that too. That is why he said I will be seeing you in the future. And I don’t see him losing the belt anytime soon. He is good. I think I am the person to beat him. Yeah, my mission stays the same. Beat the next guy in front of me,” Whittaker clarified.

Hence, it is pretty clear Whittaker will leave no stones unturned to fight for the title once again. This also showed that Whittaker has no hard feelings towards the judgment.
