Chaos Inside the Octagon as Dana White & Joe Rogan Separate Sean O’Malley, Aljamain Sterling and Merab Dvalishvili After Altercation Post UFC 288

UFC 288 main event saw the bantamweight championship bout take place. Aljamain Sterling took on Henry Cejudo as the fans anticipated a banger. The MMA community expected both fighters to put on a show as they promised the same before the fight. The fighters delivered on the promise as the duo put on a close fight as the bout went the distance and ‘Funk Master’ clinched the win via split decision. Furthermore, Sterling also called out ‘Suga’ Sean O’Malley for his next title defense and set up a confrontation inside the octagon.

What many assumed to be a means to promote the fight turned ugly as a brawl ensued after the fight. Sean O’Malley was present at UFC 288 as he expected to face the winner of the main event. Upon receiving the callout, ‘Suga’ entered and confronted the UFC bantamweight champion.

Tempers were flaring as O’Malley entered the octagon. Both fighters confronted the other as the heated discussion continued. Sterling said, “Dana ain’t gonna baby sit that ass no more,” to O’Malley. O’Malley was wearing a red jacket which he removed upon entering the octagon.

It was also reported by the commentary team that Sterling’s friend and UFC bantamweight Merab Dvalishvili wore that jacket and celebrated on the cage fence. This led to a brawl-like situation inside the UFC octagon in New Jersey.

Dana White and Joe Rogan had to separate the bantamweights to ensure that the situation did not go out of hand.

The next bantamweight title bout is also expected to take place in September of this year, as per Sterling. The UFC bantamweight said, “signed and sealed” during the brawl in relation to his next title defense against Sean O’Malley.

Nevertheless, the UFC faithful were treated to a spectacular match between Aljamain Sterling and Henry Cejudo.

What happened in the main event of UFC 288 between Aljamain Sterling and Henry Cejudo?

Round 1 saw Cejudo showing his experience as a wrestler as he took Sterling down. Sterling’s approach all throughout the round was to throw some strikes and find his footing. Additionally, Sterling’s change in stance was creating problems for Cejudo.

The second round showed a better performance by Sterling. The ‘Funk Master’ caused trouble for ‘Triple C’ owing to a very significant reach advantage. Cejudo managed to throw in some strikes of his own too.

Round 3 started with Sterling throwing some good strikes. ‘Funk Master’ was faking a takedown while throwing the shots. Additionally, he also secured a takedown on ‘Triple C’. The stance change and the strikes were hurting the former UFC double champion.

The championship rounds started as both fighters threw some light strikes at each other. Leg kicks seemed to be the game plan for both fighters in round 4. Cejudo also tried to clinch ‘Funk Master’ after 2 minutes into the round. However, he did not manage to take him down. Joe Rogan also observed the swelling on the legs of Henry Cejudo as Sterling landed some good calf kicks.

The final round started with what looked like a balanced fight. Cejudo constantly put pressure on Sterling. ‘Funk Master’ took a cautious approach early on in the round. Cejudo secured a takedown at the last minute of the round. The fight thus went for the judges to decide and the split decision went in the favor of Aljamain Sterling.
