UFC 294 shuffles fate for Charles Oliveira and Dricus Du Plessis

UFC 294 has potentially changed the destiny of two fighters, Charles Oliveira and Dricus Du Plessis. Featherweight champion Alexander Volkanovski will step in to face Islam Makhachev for the lightweight title, replacing Oliveira in the main event, thus stripping him out of his title fight. Meanwhile, the winner Khamzat Chimaev vs. Kamaru Usman fight will be getting a title shot against Sean Strickland, thus costing Dricus Du Plessis his shot.

While it makes more sense that the winner of the Makhachev vs. Volkanovski fight should be facing Oliveira next Dana’s white opinion seems to differ. He proclaimed that a trilogy fight would probably happen if Volkanovski got the win this time.

Dana White in the UFC 294 ceremonial weigh-in press conference was asked about Oliveira. In his statement added “I have no idea. I’m not even thinking about that yet. I mean, I’m excited about tomorrow. I have no idea what we’re gonna do with Charles.”

He further added “Until – but obviously, if I have to answer that question, I’d say yeah (he gets the winner). I mean, the kid got a bad beat and got a bad cut literally hours before he was supposed to fly out. But, yeah, I’m not even thinking about that yet. I’m sure Charles is, but I’m not right now.” Despite the uncertainty about the fate of Oliveira, it seems that White’s not rushing toward Oliveira’s fight and he wants him to recover first.

Dana White opinion on Dricus Du Plessis

Dricus Du Plessis was supposed to fight Israel Adesanya in the UFC 293 event for the title but his injury stopped him in the middle and Sean Strickland had to step up to fill the shortcomings. Now, with Strickland being the middleweight champ, and Chimaev looking to claim the title, it is again uncertain for Du Plessis to stake a claim on the title.

Dana White, down in the conversation, said, “I don’t know where that puts him.” White continued, “It puts him fighting somebody. He’ll end up fighting somebody.” It can be understood from White’s opinion that he is not keen on giving Du Plessis a title shot soon.
