Is it the year of the comebacks? Well, Conor McGregor is about to fight in the Octagon after 3 years of estrangement from the UFC due to injury. ‘Mystic Mac’ is about to clash against Michael Chandler in the welterweight division for his comeback. But seemingly the former dual weight champion has another challenge up for him in the lightweight division.

Charles Oliveira has been calling out the former champ for a clash for a while now.’Do Bronx’ failed to cement his status as the number one contender for the lightweight belt after Arman Tsarukyan defeated him on UFC 300 but this has not stopped the lightweight fighter from challenging his next opponent. Oliveira is looking at McGregor as his next target and in his latest escapade, he has taken shots on the former champ.

Even before the Tsarukyan fight, Charles Oliveira called out Conor Mcgregor for a fight. ‘Do Bronx’ stated that he would like to face McGregor for a money fight more than Islam Makhachev. Nonetheless, in his most recent escapade with ‘Full Violence,’ Oliveira has taken an approach to directly challenge Conor McGregor. ‘Do Bronx’ added that McGregor’s comeback fight is just a money fight and ‘Notorious’ has a chance of winning the bout.

When asked about his opinion of the UFC 303, Oliveira said, “I think that, in reality, it’s a fight that will make money for both. That’s the reality. It’s a fight that’s going to make more money. Of course, if Conor wins, he’s could take a step towards the belt. He’s a guy who’s a huge star, but I think it’s a fight for money… I think Conor [wins].”

He further emphasized that he has asked for a fight against McGregor multiple times but there has been no response from his team. “Man, everyone knows. In fact, I’ve asked for this fight against Conor a thousand times, but it’s a fight that I don’t think he wants this fight and everyone knows it. I’ve said it a thousand times. It’s a fight that will bring me a lot of money so I’d like it.”

A lightweight rematch might be possible for the Brazilian if he gets another win after the Tsarukyan defeat, however, neither Oliveira nor his coach, Diego Lima believes that they should fight Islam Makhachev now. Ahead of his clash against Arman Tsarukyan, Diego Lima came forward to claim that he believes that a fight with Conor McGregor works better for Olievira than the title fight.

“Professionally speaking, [fighting him] would be incredible. If we had the opportunity to fight McGregor at welterweight after this fight, we would fight McGregor. But how about the belt? OK, we’ll fight the belt after that, God willing. But we know that with McGregor, the creature has become bigger than the creator. We know that if the opportunity came, McGregor already considered this fight. If we really had this opportunity, that’s the one we want.” said Lima in a conversation with MMA Fighting. The ‘Chute Box’ head coach further explained that McGregor messaged Oliveira in the past stating that he should wait for his return and now that he has returned, Oliveira would like to take his chance.

Charles Oliveira and Conor McGregor are riding losing streaks but this has not stopped them from competing. Nonetheless, McGregor’s next fight against Michael Chandler would set his course for the future. What do you expect from that fight? State your thoughts in the comments below.
