Grappling is one of the most important aspects of the world of mixed martial arts. It revolves around taking an opponent down to the canvas and putting them in a lock in order to make them tap out. Undeniably, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is one of UFC’s most practiced arts for grappling. Gordon Ryan, arguably the greatest of all time in BJJ, was pitted against Felipe Pena for the main event of Who’s Number One. However, because of health concerns, Ryan had to withdraw from the match and was replaced by Nick Rodriguez.
Without a doubt, Ryan had a lot to say about the fight. He took to Instagram and shared his analysis. He claimed Rodriguez cheated by greasing up his body. Although he admitted Rodriguez had good attacks, the fact that he was ‘shining’ on his television apparently disappointed Ryan. However, this wasn’t the first time he accused his former teammate.

The BJJ first-degree black belt shared his opinion on the battle between Pena and Rodriguez. He disclosed that Pena had a good game plan with the back-take sequence. Moreover, he commended Rodriguez’s attacks as well. However, the fact that Ryan’s former opponent seemed greased and repeatedly kept stalling made him upset.

Ryan wrote, “Anyone who competes against him in the future should make him contractually wear long sleeves and spats, cheater fu**. He was shining on my tv…” Furthermore, the BJJ legend revealed that he scored for Rodriguez. He wondered how he didn’t get disqualified for being greased. However, he clarified he didn’t blame Pena. He wrote, “I don’t really blame pena for not being able to get a hold of him because I know what it’s like.” The BJJ black belt went on and explained how difficult it was for Pena to get a hold of Rodriguez, while all he did was stall the fight.
