Khamzat Chimaev breezed through his initial UFC opponents by manhandling them with his aggressive wrestling style until he met Gilbert Burns. However, he would continue to maintain his unbeaten run and silence his doubters by continuing to showcase that his wrestling looks like it’s just on a level of its own. But how does Chimaev manage to get better at his craft with each passing fight? Well, former UFC star Yoel Romero claims it’s because of the people ‘Borz’ surrounds himself with.

Yes, Chimaev has been spending a lot of time with some high-level international wrestlers, and most recently he was raining and sparring with 2024 Paris Olympics gold medalist, Ramazanbek Zhamalov. Yoel Romero also claims to have come across some footage from the Chechnya-born star’s training and found out that he was also training with the multiple-time Olympic gold medalist duo of Adam and Bauvaisar, the Satiev brothers, and guess what? Adam Satiev was the one who defeated Romero 7-1 at the 2000 Sydney Olympics to claim the gold.

“Chimaev’s wrestling level is [on another level] definitely. I saw he was training with the Satiev Brothers, with Adam and Buvaisar,” Yoel Romero stated on ‘Overdogs Espanyol. “They are two extraordinary world Olympic wrestlers. We [he and Adam] competed at the Sydney Olympic Games. He beat me in the Olympic final.” For context, Adam Satiev has one gold on his resume whereas his older brother, Buvaisar Satiev, has three gold medals to his name – 1996, 2004, and 2008.

It is an unbelievable feat between the two brothers. Moreover, Romero is convinced after UFC 308 that all this training with the Satiev brothers is paying off, and the style Khamzat wrestles with has its own place in wrestling history. “He’s training him with his brother Buvaisar Satiev, one of the great legends of wrestling. So Chimaev’s wrestling is royalty, and that’s why we saw that wrestling of such a high level from Chimaev against Whittaker,” ‘Soldier of God’ added.

While Romero has praised him for his wrestling, one of Chimaev’s training partners also opened up on his game plan as well, and cleared the misconception surrounding the undefeated star.

Khamzat Chimaev is a “smart” fighter, claims training partner

Khamzat Chimaev’s way of man-handling his opponents has often led fans to suspect that he dives into a takedown without making proper calculations while making that move. In simple terms, there are doubts about his fight IQ, but ‘Borz’s training partner Abdoul Abdouraguimov claims that people are wrong about the undefeated star. He claims Chimaev is a rather smart fighter, which is often overlooked due to his relentless intensity.

“I saw with Khamzat Chimaev that everybody thinks he’s a savage and barbaric fighter, but he’s a very smart fighter. He knows he’s strong, but he also recognizes his weaknesses so he’s not stupid and just going forward,” Chimaev’s training partner told ‘Bloody Elbow’ in an exclusive interview.
